Multiband Antenna as Ground Stations for LEO Satellites

Project Idea & Initial Situation

As part of a project inquiry, a multiband antenna intended for use as a ground station for scientific applications is currently in the planning phase. The goal is to develop a flexible and high-performance antenna solution that covers multiple frequency bands (VHF, UHF, S-band), enabling communication with satellites and other radio services.

The antenna will be equipped with a two-axis positioner with azimuth and elevation rotors, allowing automatic tracking of LEO satellites. The planned system offers versatile application possibilities, particularly for research institutions, universities, and development teams.

Development Steps

  • Integration of different antenna types (e.g., Yagi antennas for VHF/UHF, parabolic or helical antennas for S-band)

  • Field tests to ensure stable transmit and receive performance under real-world conditions

  • Optimization of antenna tuning to minimize interference and maximize efficiency

Planned Features

The multiband antenna is designed to provide stable data transmission and high reception performance across all supported frequency bands. By combining different antenna types, the system can be flexibly adapted to various communication scenarios. The robust mechanical design and precise azimuth/elevation alignment are intended to ensure reliable operation in outdoor, stationary installations.

    • Robust, weatherproof design for stationary outdoor operation
